About Emma
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Washington state (#61247254) and in California (#137336). Additionally, I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My office is in Davis, CA, and I also work with clients virtually throughout Washington, California and the United Kingdom via telehealth.
As both a couples and individual therapist, I practice emotion-focused therapy (EFT) with influences from attachment and family system theories. In addition to this, I draw on my experience as a certified trauma-informed yoga instructor to bring a holistic approach to my work, engaging both the body and the mind because I believe, as Esther Perel so eloquently said, “the body often contains emotional truths that words can too easily gloss over.”
I was drawn to pursue my specialties for both academic and personal reasons. I became interested in sex therapy in graduate school when I had the opportunity to work under Dr. Tina Schermer Sellers, and felt passionate about deepening my expertise in the field of sexual intimacy and sexual identities. I started taking courses through the Northwest Institute on Intimacy (NWIOI) and I am now a Certified Integrated Intimacy Professional.
I did not enter the world of perinatal mental health until I experienced my own late-term pregnancy loss. This experience opened my eyes to the nuanced and often complicated journey to parenthood. Approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in loss, and 1 in 8 couples experience infertility issues. The fact that these are so common and yet so underrepresented in the culture today makes what is already a challenging experience even harder to navigate. I am passionate about walking alongside others on this journey.
I am a native Californian, lover of sunshine and the beach. I love adventuring in the outdoors with my family, working in my wild garden and gathering around a meal with good friends.
